Historically significant and naturally beautiful, the trail through Robe Canyon is a worthy hiking destination any time of year. 120 years ago, railroad crews faced the daunting challenge of building tracks along a flood-prone river to connect the mines at Monte Cristo with the smelters in Everett.
The well-maintained trail quickly leaves the Mountain Loop Highway behind as it descends 300 feet down a steep bluff toward the Stillaguamish River. A series of gentle switchbacks makes the trip down (and back up) easy on the knees. The river bottom is wide and lush with maples and cottonwoods, making this an ideal place to soak your feet while soaking up the sun.

Enjoyed our 2nd hike of the year with some friends today. My petsit pup, Hope joined us for our adventure as well. This was my first hike handling 3 dogs by myself and I think it went pretty well once the initial excitement wore down. I love living somewhere that exploring and hiking is just around the corner. . . . 🐾 @ayearofhope and @sterlingandwalker . #thatpnwlife #pnwdogs #dogsofpnw #pnwwonderdogs #pnwdogslife #pnwdogsofinstagram #hikingwithdogs #dogsthathike #hikingdogsofinsta #adventuredogs #pnwadventures #dogventures #goldenretriever #seattledogs #goldensofinstagram #dogs #goldensofinstagram #siberianhusky #huskiesofinstagram #pnwlifw #pnwexplored #alaskanmalamute #malamutesofinstagram @52hikechallenge #52hikechallenge #52hikechallenge2019
Henry and I took the Benz on the Mountain Loop today. He slept while I casually rallied the roads. Then he woke up and I piggybacked him down and up the Old Robe Trail. Twas a beautiful day.
