There’s no better way to kick off the holiday season than in downtown Bothell! Each December, locals and visitors alike gather to celebrate Lucky the Tree — Bothell’s iconic grand fir that’s been the centerpiece of the city’s holiday traditions since the 1930s.
Whether you’re here for the weekend or just visiting for the day, here’s your complete guide to the Lucky the Tree Festival — including what to expect, where to stay, and what to do while you’re in town.
Once named “The World’s Largest Living Christmas Tree” by LIFE Magazine, Lucky has survived two downtown fires and still stands proudly at the corner of Main Street and 102nd Avenue NE. Voted on and named by the people of Bothell, Lucky has been lighting up hearts and holiday nights for nearly a century.
Each year, the Bothell Tree Lighting Festival & Holiday Market, hosted by the Northshore Rotary Foundation, draws crowds for an evening of cheer, shopping, and community spirit.
Holiday Market (2:00–6:30 PM)
Wander through downtown Bothell’s Holiday Market to shop with local vendors, discover handmade gifts, and sample festive treats — perfect for checking off your holiday shopping list.
Festival Activities (4:00–6:30 PM)
Enjoy free goodies from local merchants, play family-friendly games, and view cozy holiday lights.
Meet Santa Under the Tree (5:00 PM)
The highlight of the evening! Gather along Main Street to watch Santa arrive on a fire truck (thanks to the Bothell Fire Department) and join the countdown as he lights Lucky the Tree.
After the Lighting
Snap a selfie with Santa at First and Main Design Market (10100 Main Street) and soak up the glowing downtown lights.
