Today is Olivia’s 100th day or “Baek-il” in Korean! It is celebrated in Korean culture since, back in the day, childhood diseases were common and the survival rate was very low. It was a significant milestone if the baby reached 100 days after birth. Til this day, this milestone is still celebrated with the baby’s closest family members. Since Jeff’s parents live in New Orleans and haven’t been able to meet Olivia yet, we thought we would hold this special celebration in honor of his parents and Korean heritage. How are you feeling today? It’s true when people say that you’ve gotta experience the lowest in order to feel and know when you’re at the highest. Reality is some days are really tough. I feel unmotivated. Lost. Anxious. Whenever I’m feeling like this, I’d go through old photos and relive those moments when I feel free and happy. I’m the happiest here, in the mountains, where fall and winter both showed up at once. This photo is from last year’s hike to Lake Rachel, a day or two after it got the first snowfall of the season. It doesn’t look this colorful most days here, so I definitely consider myself very lucky. Nature is healing. It's Friday! New on tap today is River Road Cider from camanocider! This delicious cider was made with blackberries picked just across road from the #Snohomish river.
𝙉𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙝 𝘾𝙧𝙚𝙚𝙠 𝙋𝙖𝙧𝙠 A floating boardwalk? Yes, please! This trail is buoyed with plastic floats, which delighted the kids as they tried to make it wobble gently from side to side. I like PNW boardwalk hikes in late fall/winter because their lower elevations tend to keep them snow-free and they're easy for little legs. We loved seeing the beautiful wetlands and reading about the wildlife that live there, although we only saw two ducks and a few crows. Despite the drizzle, the boardwalk wasn’t slippery, but it did seem to keep away other walkers - we only saw a small handful of families (mostly masked) and solo walkers out for a stroll. The Pond and Viewpoint side trails might be ambitiously named (no pond or view), but we had fun adding more bouncy boardwalks to our hike for a total of 1.7 mi RT. Parking is ample and free, plus there’s a relatively clean porta-potty (bring your own sanitizer) and a lovely playground that we enjoyed until a birthday party showed up. Do yourselves a favor and don’t navigate to the “North Creek Trail” because you’ll be another 10 minutes away. Oops! 📍 Land of the Coast Salish and Stillaguamish Peoples
