Hygge: noun. A quality of coziness and comfort that invites a feeling of contentment or well-being.
The Danish concept of “hygge” is one that was borne out of a desire to get through the cold, dark winter months — a feeling we know well, here in Washington. To make these days a bit more enjoyable, we rounded up the different ways you can enjoy the great indoors, with the help of some of our favorite small businesses in and near Bothell.
As you spend more of your days inside, why not make your space more warm and inviting? Pick up a few throw pillows, a thick blanket, and candles from First & Main Design Market to curate the perfect hygge ambiance.
Warm up with a few go-to comfort foods from some of Bothell's coziest restaurants. We recommend flatbreads from The Cottage, any and all brunch items from Alexa's Cafe, and delicious wagyu burgers from Beardslee Public House.
To get into the hygge mindset, you’ll need an outfit to match. From pajamas to sweatsuits, Marlowe Boutique has a variety of ensembles that are ideal for lounging around indoors.
One of the tenets of hygge is cozying up by a fireplace. If you don’t have one at your disposal, visit Tavern on the Square at McMenamins Anderson School and enjoy their outdoor dining experience around their warm fire pits.
There’s nothing like a hot mug of mulled wine in the winter, especially when it’s from 425 Cellars. The Woodinville winery is offering mulled wine gift baskets that include everything you need to make the boozy beverage at home (brandy not included).
The hygge lifestyle is all about finding comfort in the little things, whether it be wrapping yourself up in a soft blanket, cooking a favorite meal, or relaxing by a fireplace.
